With the acedemic year starting soon and my total aversion to anything proprietary and bloated, I will start learning how to use LaTeX. A mark up language that works like word, but is way more flexible. I looked into it, got it set up for vim usage, and and ready to start. I was tempted to learn groff (a more minimalist mark up language), but decided against it due to LaTeX's macroing features (swapping between MLA and APA at a moments notice and what not). Don't get me wrong, I'm going to learn groff as well (usually for lighter things due to its less bloaty markup), but LaTeX seems way more useful in the short term. If I end up liking groff more, I'll swap to it. Once I learn the language, I'll probably write a tutorial on it as well.
